Although there are many beautiful small towns in Northern Michigan, we have a few that we keep coming back to. Harbor Springs is one of those towns.

Places to Stay in Harbor Springs

When traveling to Harbor Springs, we are usually visiting family and luckily have a place to stay (or at least a place to park our Van in the small driveway there).

There are really only two commercial places to stay in Harbor Springs:

This can make the town feel more like a day-trip type of destination for a lot of people. But, if you are looking to stay in town, there are a lot of home rentals available on Airbnb or VRBO.

Only a short drive away in Petoskey, you will find a handful of boutique hotels such as:

Places to Eat in Harbor Springs

Although there are few commercial places to stay here, there are plenty of great places to eat and drink on your visit.

  • The Paper Station Bistro
    • Great for lunch and dinner. You have to try the truffle fries!
  • Pierson’s Grille and Spirits
    • Good brunch spot with delicious Bloody Mary’s. They also have tasty pizza for later in the day. There is a lot of neat vintage Nub’s Nob ski-slope decor inside.
  • The Pier
    • Don’t miss out on the Awesome Coffee and morel mushroom soup. Plus it’s close to the water with a great view of the marina!
  • Small Batch at the Cupola
    • Appetizing breakfasts and lunch. Grab a hot dog from the cart on Sundays in the summer!

Things to do in the Winter

Although Michigan is cold and dark in the winter, there is still lots to do if you are willing to bundle up. Despite the cold we really do enjoy our time in Harbor Springs in the winter.

Getting away in the spring is tough for us, but if we have a few extra days to get to Northern Michigan this is what we like to do here:

Things to do in the Summer

On our summer van trip, we usually start or end our week in Harbor Springs. It’s a good launch or landing spot for adventures.

Like many other small towns on Lake Michigan in the summer, there is generally a lot more to do in warmer weather.

Here are some things that we recommend doing in Harbor Springs during the summertime:

  • Swim at Zorn Park
  • Play with your dog at the Zoll Street Beach
  • Cycle the Little Traverse Wheel Way
  • Hike and camp at the Wilderness State Park
  • Kite at Sturgeon Bay or Petoskey State Park
  • Paddle the harbor. Rent paddle boards and kayaks at The Outfitter.
  • Sail in Little Traverse Bay
  • 4th of July fireworks (always on the 4th)
  • Watch the Ugotta Regatta
  • Music at Marina Park every Friday 6:30-8:30 PM
  • Street Musique downtown every Thursday 6:30-8:30 PM

Things to do in the Fall

The fall in Harbor Springs is spectacular. The colors on the trees and the crisp autumn air are a nice change after the hot summer months.

If you are looking for a place to visit on your next weekend away, try exploring Harbor Springs.

Although it is a small town with very few hotel options and some of the restaurants can be rather expensive, it is full of charm that changes with the seasons and has many amazing things to do!
