OneWheel + Beach Chair = Fun

We are always looking for a fun and new adventure to try out. After watching several videos of people cruising around on their OneWheels in beach chairs, we had to give it a try. For date night, we did some playing around.

The Chair

Finding the right chair is the first step to seated OneWheel cruising. It needs to be a short chair, so you are still able reach the ground. However, it also needs to be tall enough that you are not sitting on the wheel. I think our chair is about 6″ from the ground. The next important piece is the crossbars under the chair. As you can see in the pictures, the crossbars are what applies the pressure to the board to engage the motor. Therefore, they have to go side-to-side not front-to-back.

Our OneWheel Beach Chair Experience

This can only be described with one word, FUN! Before riding, we initially thought it would be easier than standing, because well you are sitting. It is in fact much harder. You have to engage your core and legs to control your direction and speed. One minor adjustment or shift in your seat can really change the direction and speed you are going.

I would highly recommend some shoes with thicker soles for this since your feet (a.k.a. heels) act like training wheels. I was using my Converse AllStars and they weren’t the best. If you have a pair of Heelies, I have a feeling they might be about perfect.

OneWheel Beach Chair Rides

Initial Thoughts

Hilarious! So we have only been on a few beach chair rides, but it is a lot of fun. Getting out on the OneWheel is one of our favorite pastimes, why not try something new. Whether you are checking out a new trail, riding with new people, or riding in a new way (a.k.a. Land Surfing), it is always fun! I highly recommend some beach chair riding!

When traveling in our Custom Van, we usually take our OneWheel along for the ride. It is a great way to explore local areas, but check out the local restrictions before you ride. You don’t want to get pulled over by the park rangers like we did at the Platt River Campground in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Shoreline.
