Visiting Manistee Michigan

After visiting the town of Pentwater in the summer of 2023, we continued our trek north up the third-coast to Manistee, Michigan. At just over 6,000 residents, Manistee is the fifth largest town in Northern Michigan and there was more to do and see!

Places to Stay in Manistee

We stayed at the Orchard Beach State Park just north of Manistee. The state park was large and easy to make reservations. Despite its name, you can not access the water or beach from the park.

Although you couldn’t get to the water here, there was a beautiful hiking path across the street and a gorgeous view over the bluff with a family of bald eagles nearby.

Places to Eat in Manistee

Usually, we do most of our cooking and dining in our own camper van. However, on our first day in Manistee, the temperature dropped and it rained all day. After exploring lighthouses, piers and beaches all day, we were looking forward to being inside somewhere else for a little while.

We decided to check out the North Channel Brewing Company. The food was good, the beer was cold, and the service was friendly. It had a pretty sweet atmosphere and trivia night once a week!

Final Thoughts on Visiting Manistee

We would like to return to Manistee for a multi-day hike in the Manistee National Forest or a paddle trip down the Manistee River. For this trip, we were primarily looking for new kite spots and places to cycle! After a day of rain, a day of cycling, and a day of kiting, we were ready to explore further up the coast!

Enjoyed a brief visit to Manistee this summer as well. Beautiful! For those of us that are golfing addicted, the Manistee Golf an Country Club was even better than expected. Several holes border the bluff overlooking Lake Michigan which provided incredible views. The clubhouse was smallish and quaint and over 100 years old. There was no “snooty factor” detected. Very friendly people!
